EDUCATION - COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Currently, Village Theatre’s Community Outreach Program impacts thousands of people annually, including:

Free In-School Workshops to over 4,000 students each year, link productions to curriculum and bring arts into the classroom.

Pied Piper Public Show Series provides free tickets to families who would otherwise not be able to attend. Over 250 tickets annually have been donated to various non-profit and government agencies serving at-risk, low income families and youth. Free Pied Piper School Matinee Tickets and Workshops: Free seats to Pied Piper are given annually to 3,000 students each year. Free In-school workshops are provided to over 4,000 annually.

Cocoon House Project: Village Theatre KIDSTAGE has begun a long-term partnership with the Cocoon House in Everett. The Cocoon House is a homeless shelter and residence for homeless and at risk teens. KIDSTAGE will be providing year round life skills through theatre programming for Cocoon House residents, full scholarships for regular KIDSTAGE programs, and season tickets to Village Theatre’s Mainstage Season.

Marysville School District Theatre Arts Access Partnership: Village Theatre was invited to supply the Marysville School District and their economically disadvantaged and Second Language Learners with access to high-quality children’s theatre productions, performance workshops for students, and teacher training.

In Your Eyes School and Community Tour: In Your Eyes is a compelling new musical written by teens with the guidance of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning writing mentor, Brian Yorkey. The show addresses issues of bullying and tolerance and is lovingly referred to as “The Breakfast Club meets Columbine”. It is a story about a classroom caught in a lockdown without a teacher. In Your Eyes was work-shopped and remounted with Everett students, toured to three high schools, and was performed several times for the public thanks in part to a sponsorship by the Marysville Community Coalition. The Snohomish Co. Dept. of Health and Human Services, a strong advocate of the messages imparted by In Your Eyes, was involved in a community forum held at the Everett Performing Arts Center.

Last Exit is a new musical developed by KIDSTAGE teens with Brian Yorkey about teen suicide. Other groups to raise awareness about teen depression and suicide are now producing the show. It was developed in collaboration with the Youth Suicide Prevention Organization.

What We Can Do Now-New and expanded Outreach Programs, thanks to the NEW facility can include:

Enhanced school field trips: Now when students attend a Pied Piper matinee they can also enjoy a free workshop at the Youth Education Center Stage.

Special Needs Programming: With proper funding, Village Theatre can provide productions created specifically for special needs audiences and customize workshops for them at the space.

Free Performances in the Plaza: Weekly in the summertime, KIDSTAGE students will present high quality performing arts for the community. Satellite Programs: Customized programs at other venues with underserved populations can come to fruition with final demonstrations or performances at Second Stage.
