School Year Institute Productions
School Year Productions – Issaquah (2012-2013)
There are four performance opportunities each year. Most are open to all students, not just Institute. Performances are held at the First Stage Theatre. Students may participate in more than one performance program if desired and cast. Additional tuition applies to most programs. Rehearsals for performance programs vary. Students not involved on stage may be selected to learn and work behind-the-scenes in various capacities.
TeenSelect and Ensemble Productions
Rehearsals are six to eight weeks, the shows run for three weekends and are professionally designed and directed. The emphasis is on the performer.
The TeenSelect production is a production of an original or developing work (typically from Village or Company Originals program.) The age range will depend upon the show selected, but is generally geared towards high-school students. The Ensemble production is a musical for young audiences and is for students in grades 6-9. TeenSelect runs in January and Ensemble runs in April. General tuition is $600, but $540 for Institute Students.
Company Originals
Company Originals is a program where students create their own musical with guidance of professional writers and composers. The emphasis is on the performer/writer/composer.
The program and schedule will take various shapes from year to year depending on the writing and teaching artists we commission. There will typically be two ways to be involved: as writers and composers and/or as actor/creator. The writing/composing program meets typically 2-3 days a week throughout the fall and winter. The writing/composing team is open to general students and the general tuition is $600. Institute tuition is $420-$540 depending on program design. The actor/creator program meets 2-3 days a week throughout the winter. The actors will be selected from Institute students only and the tuition ranges from $420-$540 depending on program design. All participants will meet more frequently leading up to the final staged readings (or workshop productions) which will take place in late March.
Sing it Forward
Sing it Forward is a benefit for the KIDSTAGE Scholarship fund and is exclusive to Institute students past and present. Some special guest alumni or instructors may also perform. Auditions in late September, rehearses in October, and has two performances in late October. There is no tuition for this program.
