Bye Bye Birdie

Book by Michael Stewart
Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Lee Adams

Irresistible Family Comedy

Bring the family to one of the best-loved musicals of all time! Just days away from enlisting in the Army, Fifties pop idol Conrad Birdie is preparing for one last appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show to bid a lucky teenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss. Winner Kim MacAfee and the rest of Sweet Apple, Ohio have their lives turned upside-down by Conrad's arrival, while his manager, Albert, juggles publicity pressures, a marriage-minded sweetheart, and a meddling mother! Lots of laughs, loveable tunes, and a measure of merry nostalgia make this four-time Tony Award-winner a true American classic.

Birdie Fanatic Contest

Who is the biggest fan of Bye Bye Birdie? The results are in!

EVERETT Winner:
Samantha Keller, Camano Island
'We love you Conrad, oh yes we do. We love you Conrad and we'll be true. When you're not near us...we're blue! Oh, Conrad, we love you!' That's what my friends said to me as I walked on stage for the first time in my life!! Yep! I played Conrad Birdie in my school play. I've loved Elvis forever and when I heard that Bye Bye Birdie was based on Elvis, I HAD to be Conrad!! It was the closest to Elvis I could/would ever be. I know every song, dance and line... I even have the original LPs framed and hanging in my room! I'd love to sit in the crowd, watching what I did in front of hundreds of people. I can say that I am 'Honestly Sincere' when I tell you I AM THE BIGGEST BYE BYE BIRDIE FAN!!

Note: Not only was Samantha chosen as one of our Birdie Fanatics, but she (and her Birdie Fanatic title) was featured in The Herald.

ISSAQUAH Winner:
Diana Blanco, Bellevue
'You've gotta be sincere.' The madness began at the age of 17. It was a regular old day at Edmonds Woodway High School, with one exception: the cast list was posted. Skimming the list I came upon my name (drum roll please) Diana Blanco as ROSIE ALVAREZ!!! From that moment I 'put on my happy face' and jumped for joy. Week after week I became Miss Rosie Alvarez. The way she moved, the way she talked, the way she danced with the Shriners, that was ME! And now, nearly 10 years later, I have nothing but musical mania memories. From the first time I had to kiss someone on stage (Albert and Rosie's final scene), to the FABULOUS harmonic vocal training for the 'Ed Sullivan' song, to the weeks and weeks of compliments after the show ended. Many people have glory stories from high school of sports and parties. Me? I have Bye Bye Birdie.

Cast, sets make 'Bye Bye Birdie' a winner –The Herald

"We love you, Village Theatre. Oh yes we do, for bringing "Bye Bye Birdie" to Everett" –The Herald

"'Bye Bye Birdie' a hilarious take on kids, parents" –Seattle Times

"Harris gives an unforced, naturalistic performance, and dazzles in her big song and dance moments such as "Spanish Rose" and "The Shriners' Ballet." Another strong asset is the pitch perfect parody of Presley by Dan Connor, smoothly twitching and swiveling his way through "Honestly Sincere," "One Last Kiss," and "A Lot of Living to Do." –Talkin' Broadway

"Glows with Sweet Nostalgia" –Seattle Times
