All camps meet at Francis J. Gaudette Theatre, 303 Front Street North, Issaquah. Some camps take place at First Stage Theatre, 120 Front Street North, Issaquah.

Prices: $140–$265

EARLY STAGES – Literature and Life Skills (Pre-K–Grade 2)

Kids Taking Classes

Early Stages are literature based exploratory camps that encourage confidence by building theatre and life skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Process over product is emphasized. Developmentally appropriate exercises and activities teach beginning terminology and theatre skills in each camp. Students also learn valuable life skills such as taking turns, listening, speaking up and being part of a team — all in a safe atmosphere where it is easy to make new friends. Camps are offered with different themes and students can take more than one. A sharing for family and friends is held on the last day of each camp.

Marvelous Monsters and Mermaids (Grades Pre-K–K)

Maurice Sendak's excellent book Where the Wild Things Are and the Hans Christian Andersen story of The Little Mermaid are the inspiration for this camp. Students use their imaginations to make these colorful characters come to life.

Fabulous Fairies and Dynamic Dragons (Grades Pre-K–K)

Using mystical adventures and a pinch of fairy dust, students imaginatively explore their favorite fairy and dragon characters and create unforgettable original tales with a special blend of dragon fire and fairy wings.

Clever Princes/ses and Crafty Critters (Grades K–1)

Using classic tales such as The Frog Prince, The Lion and the Mouse, Raven Steals the Sun and Puss in Boots, students inhabit and enliven the stories of famously clever creatures and their human interactions. Explorations include physical and vocal expression.

Princesses, Wizards, and Knights (Grades 1–2)

Students explore movement, voice, and storytelling as well as arts and crafts in this popular camp where royalty, magic, and fairytales are all a part of every day life.

 

FUNDAMENTAL STAGES CAMPS – Building Blocks for Young Actors (Grades 3–10)

Kids Taking Classes

Fundamental Stages are introductory exploration camps that encourage confidence by building theatre and life skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Process over product is emphasized. Developmentally appropriate curriculum includes exercises and activities that teach terminology and theatre skills in every camp. Students also learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, creativity, collaboration, imagination, public speaking, problem solving, and responsibility — all in a safe atmosphere where it is easy to make new friends. Camps for grades 3–5 emphasize character development while the camp for grades 6-10 places a greater emphasis on ensemble building and teamwork. A sharing or demonstration is held on the last day of each camp.

HALF-DAY CAMPS

Off the Cuff — Improvisational Games (Grades 3–5)

The ability to improvise takes creativity and mental flexibility and helps in all areas of student's lives. Explore spontaneity, voice, movement, and character objective as a way to create completely original characters. An all time favorite for the theatre student.

Prince Caspian — Characters from Narnia (Grades 3–5)
August 4–8, 2008, 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Put on your fur coat and enter the magical world of Narnia. C.S. Lewis' classic tale The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and the recently released movie version of Prince Caspian are the inspiration for this mystical and unforgettable adventure.

Theatresports — Improvisational Games (Grades 6–10)
July 14–18, 2008, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

The ability to improvise takes creativity and mental flexibility and helps in all areas of student's lives. Students say yes to suggestions from scene partners, audience members and themselves while working collaboratively to create spontaneous original scenes. Improvisation camps are an all time favorite.

Kids Taking Classes

HALF-DAY CAMPS — (Grades 1–5)

Musical Theatre camps are for students ready to develop or increase skills in all areas of musical theatre. Camp time includes learning music, staging, choreography, and rehearsal terminology. In the Grade 1–2-level camps, the focus is on the process of developing skills, with an "Informance" the last day of camp allowing students to demonstrate their new abilities and learning. In the Grade 3–5-level camps, the camps feature student collaboration in developing a musical showcase of material that is performed for family and friends at the end of camp.

Kids Taking Classes

ALL-DAY CAMPS (Grades 4–12)

All-Day Musical Theatre camps are for students ready to develop or increase skills in all areas of musical theatre. Camp time includes learning music, staging, choreography, and rehearsal terminology. Camps are themed around specific Broadway show styles and feature student collaboration in developing a musical showcase of material that is performed for family and friends at the end of camp. Kick up your heels! It's show time!

The Golden Age of Broadway (Grades 4–8)
June 23–27, 2008, 9:30 AM–4:00 PM

An exciting study of some of the memorable songs from the 'golden age' of musicals; such as: Oklahoma, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, and My Fair Lady. Students will participate in developing a musical revue that allows them to demonstrate their new and developing skills.

Broadway Rocks (Grades 6–10)
June 30–July 3, 2008 (4-day camp), 9:30 AM–4:00 PM

Stephen Schwartz' great rock musicals will come alive at Village Theatre's First Stage. Perform beloved songs from such musicals as Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked. Sing, dance, and rock out!

Big Dance Blockbusters (Grades 6–10)
July 21–25, 2008, 9:30 AM–4:00 PM

For those with the beat in their feet and who gotta dance, this camp offers the perfect exploration of some of the greatest dance numbers of all time. Material will come from such shows as 42nd Street, Crazy for You, West Side Story, Footloose, and Cats!

Create your own Village Original (Grades 6–10)
July 28–August 1, 2008, 9:30 AM–4:00 PM

In the spirit of Village Theatre and the KIDSTAGE Company Originals program, students will use improvisational games and story-boarding techniques to create original musical concepts. A revue of original songs and scenes will be performed on the last day of camp.

The Rydell High Camp (Grades 4–8)

Join KIDSTAGE for an exciting study of some of the memorable songs from the Tony award winning musical Grease. Students will participate in developing a musical revue of dances and songs such as "Summer Nights," "Beauty School Dropout", and "We'll be Together."

Mamma Mia and other Movie Musicals (Grades 9–12)
August 4–8, 2008, 9:30 AM–4:00 PM

Join the movie musical craze! Hand-pick your favorite numbers from your favorite Broadway musicals that have recently hit the silver screen or started on the silver screen and recently hit Broadway. The result will be a musical revue of songs from such musicals as Dreamgirls, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, and the phenomenal Mamma Mia.

SATURDAY MORNING DANCING (Grades 4–Age 20)

Dance Call 101 (Grades 4–8)
Saturdays, June 21–July 26, 2008, 9:00 AM–10:30 AM

Each week, students explore essential musical theatre dance moves, acting through dance, specificity of movement, and selling a dance number. The class fine-tunes memorization techniques, performance skills, and audition etiquette to prepare students for any future audition.

Tap (Beginning/Intermediate) (Grades 4–8)
Saturdays, June 21–July 26, 2008, 10:30 AM–11:30 AM

Tap is an essential skill for all musical theatre performers. Students develop fundamental technique, rhythm, flexibility, coordination, and style.

Yoga Ballet (Grades 8–Age 20)
Saturdays, June 21–July 26, 2008, 9:00 AM–10:30 AM

Take a peek at Ballet from a different point of view. Students will connect the breath to the flowing movements of yoga, ballet, and contemporary dance as they challenge the body, mind, and heart to find their inner dancer.
Pair with Partnering for Musical Theatre

Partnering for Musical Theatre (Grades 8–Age 20)
Saturdays, June 21–July 26, 2008, 10:30 AM–11:30 AM

Tuition: $40+

Prerequisites: Must be paired with Yoga Ballet
Highly recommended for SummerStock cast members

Students will develop strength, trust, and lead/follow skills as they work on partnered turns, lifts, and dances commonly found in musical theatre choreography. Our male/female teaching team will guide students through the etiquette and safety issues of partnering while offering their own perspective on each student's responsibility to their partnering team. All body types encouraged.
