KIDSTAGE

KIDSTAGE production programs strive for the highest educational experience possible. To be a performer in any KIDSTAGE production requires an audition, and all technical rehearsals are designed to educate participants about the professional approach to producing theatre.

Students participate in all areas of KIDSTAGE productions, on stage and behind-the-scenes; each production program offers different opportunities.

KIDSTAGE SummerStock, Issaquah

Features over 40 young people, ages 8–18, in a full-scale musical on the Francis J. Gaudette Theatre stage. Performers are selected through a rigorous audition process. The musical is directed and designed by theatre professionals and features a live orchestra.

About the Show: From the beloved book comes one of Broadway's most ravishing musicals. When orphaned Mary Lennox discovers a neglected garden on her uncle's lonely estate, she sets about restoring it to life...and love blooms anew. This tale of hope and healing, set to a gorgeous score including "Lily's Eyes," "The Girl I Mean To Be," and "Winter's on the Wing," promises breathtaking, inspiring entertainment for the entire family.

Annie Get Your Gun

About the Show: Annie Get Your Gun tells the adventurous story of Annie Oakley, a sharp-shooter who falls in love with her competition, Frank Butler. This classic musical scores a bull's-eye with Irving Berlin's well-known hit tunes "Anything You Can Do" and "There's No Business Like Show Business." Audiences of all ages will laugh and applaud at this Wild West show within a show in Peter Stone's 1999 revision of the original 1946 classic.

The Spitfire Grill

The KIDSTAGE Summer Independent is the pinnacle of the KIDSTAGE program. The Summer Independent is produced, designed and directed entirely by young artists under 20. Professional mentorship is provided by Village Theatre artists and staff.

About the Show: The Spitfire Grill is based on the award-winning 1996 movie written and directed by Lee David Zlotoff. Freed on parole from a lonely prison cell, Percy Talbot's search for a fresh start leads her to the dusty town of Gilead, Wisconsin. When Percy gets a job at The Spitfire Grill, this unlikely hero reawakens not only her spirit, but also the dreams and passions of everyone around her. Full of folksy, uplifting songs that soothe the American soul, some of which include "A Ring Around the Moon," "Wild Bird," and "Shine," The Spitfire Grill is a breath of fresh country air.

KIDSTAGE Summer Independent, Everett

This new KIDSTAGE program allows teens to fully stage their own musical revue with strong support and instruction from professional Village Theatre mentors. Every member of the 16 person cast, production team, and creative team will be under 20 years old.

 

KIDSTAGE TeenSelect, Issaquah

Features advanced young actors in 7th to 12th grade in a full-scale musical that includes simple but professionally-designed sets, costumes, lights, and sound. After successfully auditioning, actors are directed and choreographed by theatre professionals.

 

KIDSTAGE TeenSelect, Everett

Features advanced young actors in 8th to 12th grade in a full-scale musical that includes simple but professionally-designed sets, costumes, lights, and sound. After successfully auditioning, actors are directed and choreographed by theatre professionals.

 

Issaquah KIDSTAGE Company Originals

KIDSTAGE Company productions are original musicals written by students. Advanced performers and emerging theatre artists, grade 9 to age 20, after a competitive audition process, collaborate with a professional writer and composer to create and perform their own original, full-scale musical, under the guidance of a professional directing and design team.

The Company production is written by, for, and about teens, and it addresses some of the most important issues facing teens today. Past original teen works include: trust me., Last Exit, In Your Eyes, and A Perfect Fall.

 

KIDSTAGE Ensemble, Issaquah

Features 4th to 8th grade students in a full-scale musical. The actors are selected through a competitive audition process. The show is directed, choreographed, and musically directed by skilled professionals and features professionally-designed costumes, sets, lights, and sound.

The KIDSTAGE Ensemble is an excellent opportunity for young performers to experience the power of working as a team in a theatre ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting, and character work are part of the rehearsal process. Strong friendships are formed, and actors practice the values of cooperation, teamwork, and problem-solving.
