Master Carpenter

Village Theatre is accepting applications for Master Carpenter at the Everett Performing Arts Center

Qualified candidate will have:

  • Good leadership skills
  • 3+ years experience in professional theatre environment as Master Carpenter.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that safety procedures are being followed in the shop and during work calls on stage. Lead crews in shop and during load-in and strike on stage.
  • Assign tasks and projects.
  • Answer questions.
  • Ensure projects are being completed correctly and efficiently.
  • Work closely with Stage Operations Supervisor and Assistant Technical Director in dealing with:
  • Load in schedule
  • Progress updates
  • Materials on hand.
  • Construction methods and materials.
  • Coordinate with other departments concerning load in and strike issues.
  • Set the standard for the shop as it applies to Quality, Craftsmanship, pace and professionalism.

Lead Scenic Carpenter

Village Theatre is accepting applications for Lead Scenic Carpenter.
This position:

  • Works closely with the Master Carpenter, Technical Director and ATD to produce high quality scenery.
  • Requires prior scenic carpentry experience and must be able to build from drawings with varying degrees of information.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build scenery for all shows produced by the Village Theatre Scene Shop.
  • Build scenery, utilizing techniques in carpentry, welding, rigging and automation.
  • Shift scenery around in paint space.
  • Accomplish scenic notes for all shows produced by the scene shop.
  • Load-In and Strike all shows produced by the scene shop.
  • Lead crews for specific projects and tasks.
  • Occasionally drive trucks.
  • Maintain scene shop by cleaning, repairing tools/equipment and taking inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain FJG stage and Firststage by accomplishing minor repairs, cleaning, organizing, and servicing rigging systems.
  • Support other departments at the discretion of the Technical Director and Master Carpenter.
  • Communicate with colleagues and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Provide feedback on processes and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot problems having to do with scenery and stage systems.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Accomplish projects and tasks set forth by the Technical Director, ATD and Master Carpenter.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities with a high degree of quality and professionalism.

HELP PROMOTE LOCAL WORLD-CLASS MUSICAL THEATRE! Village Theatre's annual tele-fundraising campaign is underway! Seeking talented telephone fundraising reps to make outbound phone calls to our audience members. Background in phone work, fundraising, sales, and/or theatre helpful but not required. Script and training provided. Retirees/college students encouraged to apply! Great for extra income in Issaquah.

Compensation consists of a $12/hour guaranteed base wage + weekly bonuses. Successful applicants average $15-20/hour. Closers can earn considerably more per hour, and will receive complimentary tickets. 20-29 hours/week, Monday-Friday 4-9pm or 5-9pm, and Sunday 4-8pm.

Associate Production Manager

Overview: The Associate Production Manager provides comprehensive support for all Mainstage and Village Originals artistic and producing activities. Responsible for coordinating all administrative activities of the artistic and production departments of the Theatre, including working with the Executive Producer and Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors to provide administrative and logistical support necessary to ensure the smooth function of the department, with attention to communication, new musical submissions, and planning and oversight of Village Originals activities. Serves as primary production manager for Village Originals Festival of New Musicals and Village Originals Beta Series as well as other readings throughout the season. Serves as primary administrative support for Production Manager and production department, including facilitating communication, coordinating calendars, handling correspondence, and other duties. Serves as primary point of contact for, and provides assistance and problem resolution to authors, guest artists, stage management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Production Manager, Executive Producer and Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors to set priorities and identify and resolve problems that are administrative in nature
  • Manages Village Originals submissions, coordinates distribution to artistic staff and readers, collates responses
  • Coordinates artistic planning, including season planning, Village Originals planning, and other artistic program planning, coordinating with other departments on facility use, production issues, internal and public communications, calendaring, and staffing.
  • Composes and drafts documents for Artistic leadership, Executive Producer and Production Manager including correspondence, presentations, speeches, and reports; perform substantial editing and fact checking. Creates, maintains, modifies, and/or ensures accuracy of content in relevant artistic and production documents.
  • Plans and schedules Artistic Director calendars in consultation with relevant principals, and resolves calendaring conflicts.
  • Monitors Artistic Director’s email and voicemail. Responds to messages in consultation with Artistic Director
  • Serves as Artistic and Production department representative at theatre sanctioned events and meetings.
  • Assists Executive Producer, Production Manager and Director of Finance in negotiation and oversight of relevant artist agreements, especially regarding Village Originals (Beta Series and VOFNM)
  • Takes notes in Artistic and Production meetings, and distributes to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Manages comp and house seat requests, coordinating with Artistic Leadership and Production Manager.
  • Maintains an active knowledge and library of both classic and contemporary plays and musicals.
  • Actively seeks out opportunities to incorporate underrepresented persons, such as minority and disabled artists/writers/technicians into the Village Theatre family. Report on these findings to Artistic leadership and Production Manager.
  • In coordination with Production Manager, write, distribute, and collect contracts for New Works Festival (Authors, Directors, MDs, SMs) and Beta Series MDs
  • In coordination with Production Manager, create and maintain contact sheets for Mainstage, Beta Series, Festival, and Writers Residency and other events.
  • In coordination with Production Manager, create and maintain Production Calendars for Mainstage and Beta Series productions; book rehearsal and performance space in Outlook
  • Coordinate, write, distribute, and collect agreements for ASL Interpreters for the Mainstage season
  • Obtain and scan season scripts (Mainstage, Beta Series, Festival); distribute hard or digital copies to production teams as needed
  • Lead Production department tech notes / tech rehearsals as needed for Beta Series productions.
  • Responds to and records phone calls, handle correspondence, exercise utmost discretion and critical judgment in ensuring positive and productive communications as they relate to all Production activities.
  • Communicates with payroll department to ensure all stage manager contracts and payroll are executed properly.
  • Works with PM to locate, recruit, interview and hire all Stage Managers, Assistant Stage Managers and Production Assistants for all Mainstage shows and Village Originals.
  • Coordinates distribution of keys to stage managers and assistant stage managers.
  • Schedules ASL interpreters and coordinate contracts and payment.
  • Carries cell phone and be available for Village Theatre business within reasonable time allotments. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Equivalent Experience Preferred:
5 to 7 years’ professional theatre experience in production management or coordination Physical Ability:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge:

  • Calm / Professional demeanor, sense of humor encouraged
  • Working knowledge of professional theatre systems and personnel
  • Familiarity with existing and emerging technologies and practices relevant to theatre and the entertainment industry

Audience Services Representative - Issaquah

Reports to Box Office Manager and Assistant Box Office Manager

Job Summary:
As part of the Issaquah Village Theatre Box Office, the Audience Services Representative must have good communication skills with a positive, friendly, and outgoing personality. Must be prompt, reliable, and detail oriented. The position is hourly with an average of 20 hours a week. Flexibility in work times is a must, including days, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle large volume of in-bounds sales, exchanges and inquires with the highest level of courtesy and professionalism.
  • Sell new and renewing subscriptions, single tickets, gift certificates, and memberships.
  • Provide helpful information for performances, pricing options, parking, directions, local restaurants and seating for patrons with disabilities.
  • Assist with patron relations and resolve complex patron inquiries and complaints by phone.
  • Maintain familiarity with subscription and single ticket marketing initiatives, patron loyalty program, donor benefits, Village Theatre events and website.
  • Provides concierge services before performances and during intermissions to warmly greet and engage patrons and get them excited about our productions, as well as provide normal Box Office services.
  • Cover Box Office duties at First Stage performances, both for KIDSTAGE and Village Original productions.
  • Attend all Main Stage productions preferably during the Friends and Family preview or opening week.
  • Guide patrons though their online interactions.
  • Keep up a professional appearance in dress and attitude, and have a general appreciation for and understanding of live theatre.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Commitment to superior customer service with strong problem solving skills. Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Must be self motivated, detail oriented and able to juggle several tasks while answering phone calls.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a small office
  • Ability to adjust priorities and assignments to meet patron and company needs
  • Comfortable and familiar with computers and most basic software, and capable of learning new ticketing and CRM systems quickly. Previous ticketing experience is helpful.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining a sense of humor
  • Pleasant and clear speaking voice both in person and over the phone, as well as clean and clear handwriting.

Village Theatre KIDSTAGE seeks students 18 years of age and above for internships in our classrooms for summer 2017. KIDSTAGE Internship programs support the development of outstanding theatre professionals by providing a structured program of training, coursework, and extensive progressive in-class and hands-on learning experiences. Designed to prepare students for careers in theatre arts, internships translate the KIDSTAGE philosophy of “Skills for Theatre … Skills for Life” into classroom technique.

Internship programs are available in Issaquah and Everett Washington and include:

  • 20–40 hours per week spent in the classroom assisting an experienced theatre arts educator.
