XANADU

Book by Douglas Carter Beane • Music and Lyrics by Jeff Lynne & John Farrar

Greek Mythology and Roller-Disco are about to Collide

A spirited tongue-in-cheek comedy based on the movie starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly, this musical-on-wheels is a joyful celebration of the totally awesome power of love…and leg warmers. Ancient mythology collides with the world of disco as a Greek muse descends from Mt. Olympus to inspire the creation of the world’s first roller disco. A surprise hit on Broadway, Xanadu boasts the movie’s chart-topping songs like “I’m Alive,” “Suddenly,” and “Magic,” and was called “simultaneously indefensible and irresistible” by the New York Times.

For those with the misfortune live in the 206, the trip to Everett is worth it in order to catch this delight. Arts America

I think "Xanadu" may be the most enjoyable musical I've seen this year. Even if you're in Issaquah and missed it during it's performance there, it's worth the drive up north. Seattle Actor

"They took a stinker of a 1980 movie and turned it into a Tony Award-nominated romp of a Broadway show." Herald Net

Greek Mythology meets roller disco? ‘Xanadu’ is here! Q13Fox.com

"The Gods Have Smiled on Xanadu at Village Theatre" Talkin Broadway

"Village Theater’s production succeeds in capturing all the campy zest and glitter of the Broadway remake, with terrific music direction by Tim Symons of the songs originally tracked by the legendary pop band, the Electric Light Orchestra, excellent choreography by Kathryn Van Meter, and creative costuming by Karen Ann Ledger." Issaquah Reporter

"The sarcasm is rich, the love story is over-the-top cheesy and the rollerskates make everything a little more interesting. The show itself is as fun as it is silly and the whole cast is in on the gag." 425 Magazine

"...what makes Village Theatre’s fine production really spring to life are the two perfect leads." Seattle Weekly

"It's Jelliclicious! It's Kitschtastic!" "...Whether you liked the movie or not, you'll ove this production" Seattle Gay News

Village’s ‘Xanadu’ rolls in, full of color and camp The Seattle Times

"Jessica Skerritt (“The Producers” and “Million Dollar Quartet”) shines in the role of Clio, who’s soaring vocals will have you asking by the end, “Olivia who?” " Issaquah Press

"By any stretch of the imagination, this should not work at all. But it does. This is not, and it never was, art. And it never pretends to be. Beane never tried to fix what is wrong with “Xanadu,” magically transforming pure cinema schlock into an over-the-top, gloriously glitzy, kitschy celebration." The Daily Record

"Estridge and Riippi take this comedy duo to the levels of Lucy and Ethel and infuse them with tons of attitude and a hint of venom." Broadway World

‘Xanadu’ rolls in to Village Theatre Issaquah Press

What’s opening, what’s ending on Seattle stages soon The Seattle Times

“All of us are working at amping up the wit, the hilarity and the dance moves. ‘XANADU’ is a great way to roll into a new season.” SouthEverettBeacon.com

"Put away your claws and side-eyes, pussy cats, because Village Theatre's season kick-off production of "Xanadu" is so funny and enjoyable, you would have to be made of stone not to have a great time. " Examiner.com

An interview with Village Theatre's Artistic Director, Steve Tomkins - "From Roller Skates to the French Revolution and Beyond" KING FM Arts Channel

"Each theatergoer is treated to an evening of fantastical entertainment. The staging, lighting, music and actors all combine to form a circle of belief that is so complete". This is a behind the scenes look a the process of making theatre magic in Xanadu. Issaquah 360
