Village Theatre KIDSTAGE is taking applications for Stage Managers for our 2008-2009 productions for our locations in both Issaquah and Everett.
For 19 years, Village Theatre's KIDSTAGE has provided Puget Sound students and their families a year round "home" for theatre arts activities. KIDSTAGE provides classes for students ages 4–20 in Issaquah and Everett. The KIDSTAGE Mission is to provide a personal development program for young people that uses theatre arts to teach creativity and responsibility; to encourage teamwork and personal integrity; and to foster self-esteem and appreciation for live theatre.
KIDSTAGE productions are directed and designed by theatre professionals, and performed by students. Village Theatre's technical staff supports directors and designers for KIDSTAGE productions.
KIDSTAGE Stage Managers work in a fun and professional environment. Experience working with kids and/or teenagers is strongly recommended.

Stage Manager General Responsibilities:
Responsible for day to day running of rehearsals, performances; communication of notes from Director to all production departments; responsible for maintaining professionalism amongst acting company; other duties as assigned by Production Manager.
- Duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintain open lines of communication between Stage Manager and Production Team. The Stage Manager must inform the Production Manager immediately of any emergency concerning the company.
- Supervise Assistant Stage Manager(s), delegate duties accordingly.
- Maintain accurate promptbook of production.
- Complete and distribute rehearsal/performance reports to production departments. Use existing Village Theatre templates for these reports.
- Attend all Production Meetings.
- Respect the property of Village Theatre by assisting in keeping all rehearsal areas, control booth, green room and stage areas clean and safe.

Gain valuable experience in nonprofit arts marketing at Village Theatre as you work with the marketing and communications team on subscription and single ticket marketing, publications, events, and more. Village Theatre, founded in 1979, is a leading producer of Musical Theatre in the Pacific Northwest. With an annual budget of $6.5 million, Village Theatre provides quality productions and educational opportunities in both Issaquah and Everett.
Postion: Marketing and Communications Intern (Issaquah)
Reports to: Marketing Manager
Position Overview: This position will work directly with the marketing staff to acquire realistic work experience with a major musical theatre company. This part-time internship has flexible hours. Work Study applicants will be paid on an hourly basis, contingent upon Work Study funding. Small stipends are available for those without Work Study.
Areas of responsibility:
- Gain an introductory understanding of the Marketing & Communications department within a nonprofit arts organization
- Manage the marketing for the Annual Festival of New Musicals, to take place in the summer of 2009.
- The Festival of New Musicals is an annual event in which the theatre presents readings of six new musicals in four days. The marketing intern, under the supervision of the marketing manager, is in charge of all marketing for this event;
- Create marketing collateral using InDesign and Photoshop;
- Layout and manage the content for the complete program for the event;
- Design festival guides, badges and other pieces required for the event;
- Write show descriptions for each of the performances.
- Assist Marketing team with maintaining media database, writing PSAs and press releases, overseeing distribution of marketing collateral and preparing annual market research.
- Work on promotions, special events and other special projects.
- Participate in departmental meetings including planning and brainstorming sessions.
- Write articles to be published in newsletters, programs, and other collateral throughout the year.
- Provide additional departmental support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education or experience in Marketing, Communication, and/or Sales.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A minimum commitment of 10 weeks; flexible hours, preferably 20 hours+ per week.
- Knowledge of Word & Excel; experience with graphics or web design is a plus!

Position Overview: This position will work directly with the Development staff to acquire realistic work experience with a major musical theatre company. Flexible hours.
Paid and unpaid internships available.

Areas of responsibility:
- Gain an introductory understanding of Development/Fundraising for both the $1.5 million Annual Fund and the emerging $8.5 million Capital Campaign.
- Assist in corporate sponsorships, grant writing, special events donor research, donor prospect, and database management.
- Participate in departmental meetings including planning and brainstorming sessions.
- Provide additional departmental support as needed, plus ability to lift boxes and lift tables to help setup for events and meetings.
- Having reliable transportation is an asset in order to run departmental errands.
Qualifications:
- Education or experience in development, fundraising, or arts management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A minimum commitment of 12 weeks; flexible hours, preferably 20 hours+ per week

Village Theatre seeks additional Costume Shop staff positions for its productions of Little Women, directed by Daniella Topol, and Tim Rice and Elton John's AIDA, directed by Steve Tomkins and Brian Yorkey.

Position: Cutter/Draper
Reports to: Costume Shop Manager
General description: General responsibilities include the draping, patterning, and alteration of costumes as designed by the Costume Designer and the supervision of a team. This is a full time position working under a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Theatrical Wardrobe Union #887.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Use the sketches provided by the Costume Designer to create the costumes;
- Demonstrate proficiency in draping, flat patternmaking, and the "sculptural" use of fabric;
- Create patterns for specific actors;
- Fit costume(s) to actor(s);
- Cut or supervise the cutting of all fabric for the costumes from the patterns;
- Determine yardage for fabric and trims;
- Correct patterns or alter costumes as necessary;
- Supervise stitching crew by preparing and delegating work;
- Manage time, including that of crew, in an effective manner;
- Research the period, style, and techniques necessary to complete the costumes within the Costume Designer's guidelines;
- Maintain the integrity of the Costume Design while utilizing cost and time effective measures in producing the costumes on schedule;
- Maintain the integrity of the Costume Design while utilizing modern techniques in producing a viable and functional costume for the actor.

Position: First Hand
Reports to: Costume Shop Manager
General description: General responsibilities include assisting the Cutter/Draper in the pattern creation and construction of specific costumes as designed by the Costume Designer. This is a full time temporary position working under a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Theatrical Wardrobe Union #887.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist Cutter/Draper in the creation of patterns;
- Cut fabric based on patterns supplied by Cutter;
- Make patterns for facings and linings based on original pattern supplied by Cutter;
- Grade pattern supplied by Cutter to other sizes as needed;
- Attend fittings to assist and take notes for Cutter and Costume Designer;
- Supervise Stitchers and advise on methodologies for made-to-order garments and fitting alterations;
- Prepare alterations from fittings for Stitchers;
- Stitch costumes as directed by Cutter;
- Perform other duties as assigned by Cutter and/or Costume Shop Manager.
Candidates must have an expert working knowledge of theatrical costume construction techniques, superior sewing and tailoring skills, ability to work well with a team, and grace under pressure.

Position: Stitchers (three positions available)

General description: General responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of costume sketches under the supervision of a Cutter/Draper. This is a full time temporary position working under a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Theatrical Wardrobe Union #887.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Sew, either by machine or hand, the costumes assigned by the Cutter;
- Follow Cutter's directions when constructing a garment;
- Manage time effectively on each sewing project;
- Maintain personal work area, including sewing machinery as necessary;
- Communicate concerning problems and their possible solutions to Cutter and/or Costume Shop Manager.
Candidates must have a working knowledge of theatrical costume construction techniques, ability to work well with a team, and grace under pressure.

Position: Overhire
Reports to: Technical Director / Assistant Technical Director, Village Theatre at Everett Performing Arts Center
General description: Village Theatre seeks individuals interested in participating in the load in of The King and I and future productions at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Load in dates for this production are January 6 through 9, 2008.
Responsibilities include striking and transportation of the set from the Francis J. Gaudette Theatre in Issaquah on the evening of January 6, 2008, reassembly of the set January 7-8, 2008, and light focus on January 9, 2008. Additional load-ins for the 2007-2008 Season occur approximately every 8 weeks through June. All work will be under the supervision of the Technical Director or the Assistant Technical Director for Village Theatre.
Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of backstage theatre with a college education or equivalent professional experience. Experience with driving 24-foot box trucks would be a plus. The position is part-time on a per-show basis with a competitive hourly rate ($10-$14 DOE), with additional compensation for hours worked on New Year's Eve and Day.

Reports to: Properties Master
This is a temporary position with 3–5 week, non-concurrent employment periods.
General description: The Overhire Props Artisan/Craftsman will build furniture, hand props, and dressing for Village Theatre productions as needed and specified by the Properties Master.
Qualifications:
- General knowledge of theatrical production
- Strong knowledge of wood construction with emphasis on quality
- Capable with carpentry machinery and tools
- Upholstery and soft goods construction
- Craft, floral, graphics, paint, faux finishes knowledge a plus
- Flexibility regarding schedule and procedures

Village Theatre at the Everett Performing Arts Center is looking to expand its roster of on call stagehands for events, load ins and shows.
Prior technical theatre experience is required. Working knowledge of standard theatrical equipment (stage lighting, sound reinforcement, stage rigging and stage carpentry) is a must.
