ARTS ADVENTURES PRESCHOOL - ongoing enrollment (Grades PreK/K)

This two-day-a-week program offers an enriching, creative learning environment for your preschool aged child to embark on a journey of imagination and discovery. Arts Adventures uses an arts-based teaching structure and child-centered learning environment, where the emphasis is on the process, allowing children to think and solve problems creatively. The arts of dance, music, visual art, drama, and literature are natural disciplines that help children grow through experience and find joyful, positive, and varied ways to express themselves with confidence.

SPRING BREAK CAMP


Fun with Dr. Seuss (Grades 1-3)
April 9-13, 2012, 9:30 AM-12:30 PM
Tuition: $220

Oh, the places you’ll go! Come explore the world of Dr. Seuss. In this class, you will use your imagination to hitch a ride with The Lorax, taste some Green Eggs and Ham, and listen as Horton Hears a Who! The final sharing will take place on the actual spring production Seussical set. Each student will also receive one free ticket to the production of Seussical which runs 4/13-4/29.

“But he was still hungry!” The gloriously illustrated works of Eric Carle provide the inspiration as you play new characters and work together to act out stories both new and familiar. A steady diet of games and craft projects will more than satisfy you.

Characters like Fancy Nancy, and many others, all contribute to the fun of creative play. Jump into the world of a different story book each week exploring movement, voice, and crafts.

Exploratory Acting (Section C) – Follow the Yellow Brick Road
Tuesdays, April 17 – May 15, 2012, 5:15 - 6:15 PM
Tuition: $110

You’re off to see the Wizard in this class where you create unique characters, situations, and stories to re-enact and reinvent L. Frank Baum’s merry old land of Oz. Basic theatre and acting terminology are woven throughout the class.

This jazzy Disney hit injects New Orleans blues and energy into the KIDSTAGE classroom. Put on your webbed feet and sing and dance your way through the Bayou.

An all-singing, all-dancing venture into memorable songs from musicals with pint-sized leading characters from musicals such as Oliver!, The Secret Garden, Peter Pan, and Billy Elliot.

Acting 1 – Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Students learn how to create characters from the ground up by using and developing their own unique vocal and physical skills. Basic theatre and acting terminology are woven throughout the class as students re-enact and reinvent Jeff Kinney’s award-winning books about the hazards of growing up before you’re ready.

Saturday Dance 1 - Dance Essentials (Beginning)

Dance Essentials provides tools to increase flexibility and improve core strength. Work on need to know theatre dance steps, and the fundamentals of turns and jumps. Explore acting through dance, specificity of movement, dancing with strength, and selling a dance number.

Musical Theatre 2 - Grease
Tuesdays, April 17 – May 15, 2012, 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Tuition: $200

Join KIDSTAGE for an exciting study of some of the memorable songs from the Tony award winning musical Grease. Pink Ladies and T-Birds will develop a musical revue of dances and songs such as “Summer Nights” and “Beauty School Dropout.” Foster the skills for a “triple threat” performer: singing, acting, and dancing.

Grades 6-10 (younger by permission)
Singing for Musical Theatre
Thursdays, April 19 – May 17, 2012, 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Tuition: $200

A complete song-learning class, designed to help performers learn more about singing and story-telling through music. Areas covered include vocal technique, music theory, breath control, rhythm, melody, sight-reading, and acting through song. Students expand their vocal range, fine-tune their ears, strengthen breathing, and learn new music, all in a small-sized class. (This class does not take the place of individual voice lessons, which should be taken privately, year-round, for serious singers.)

Acting 2 – That’s My Line – Improv Games

Take risks, spontaneously create original characters and scenes, and stay in the moment. Work collaboratively to say “yes” to suggestions from scene partners and audience members in a wide variety of improv games. The practice of improvisation builds creativity and mental flexibility in all areas of life.

Acting 3 – Teen Improv/Theatre Sports

Prepare for your Music Man audition with this fantastic workshop. Explore the fundamentals of dance styles that will be used in this high energy dance show. Study acting through dance, specificity of movement, dancing with strength, and selling a dance number. The workshop will hone performance skills and prepare you for the summer auditions or any future dance call.

Private Coaching: Monologues, Songs, and Mock Audition (grades 4 - age 20)
