Exploratory Acting (Section A) - Knuffle Bunny and Other Mo Willems Stories Monday

Mo Willems’ fabulous books including Knuffle Bunny, Leonardo the Terrible Monster, and the popular Pigeon series are the inspiration for this class. Students use their imaginations to make these colorful characters come to life.

Acting 1 - Character Voyage to Narnia

Enter the magical world of Narnia (no fur-coat required). C.S. Lewis’ classic book series including The Voyage of the Dawn Treader are the inspiration for this mystical and unforgettable adventure. Develop memorable characters while exploring concepts such as voice, movement, character objective, and stage presence.

Musical Theatre 1 (Section B) - Wicked: Scenes and Songs

Musical Theatre 2 - Mamma Mia and Other Movie Musicals
Dates: Tuesdays, October 5-November 23, 2010, 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Join the movie musical craze! Foster the skills for the “triple threat” performer: singing, acting, and dancing. Students advance their musical theatre skills as they work on favorite numbers from such musicals as Mamma Mia!, Dreamgirls, Legally Blonde, and the phenomenal Hairspray.

Saturday Morning Dancing: Dance Essentials
Dates: Saturdays, October 2-November 20, 2010, 9:00 - 10:30 AM

Dance Essentials provides tools to increase flexibility and improve core strength. Work on fundamental theatre dance steps, and the fundamentals of turns and jumps. Explore acting through dance, specificity of movement, dancing with strength, and selling a dance number.

Saturday Morning Dancing: Tap (beginning/intermediate)

Singing for Musical Theatre - (5 week mini session)
Dates: Thursdays, September 30-October 28, 2010, 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Tuition: $200
A complete song-learning class, designed to help performers learn more about singing and story-telling through music. Areas covered include vocal technique, music theory, breath control, rhythm, melody, sight-reading, and acting through song. Students expand their vocal range, fine tune their ears, strengthen breathing, and learn new music, all in a small class of eight students maximum. (This class does not take the place of individual voice lessons, which should be taken privately, year-round for serious singers.)
Grades 6-10
Acting 2 - (5 week mini session) Acting a Role
Dates: Thursdays, November 1-December 9, 2010, 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Tuition: $200
This is an intermediate course for the student to fine-tune acting techniques. Class will include character development, ensemble building, and monologue and/or scene-study by using contemporary plays, scenes for film, and must-know theatre literature.

KIDSTAGE Acting Intensive (Section A)
Dates: Mondays/Wednesdays, September 13-October 6, 2010, 4:00 - 6:00 PM

The Acting Intensive focuses on acting at an advanced level including various acting methods which are explored via character driven exercises and scene-work. It is intended to be a spring-board to the new Ensemble Institute. This class is geared for students who are exploring a vocation in performance.
Prerequisites: KIDSTAGE performance or permission.
Highly recommended for those auditioning for the Ensemble Institutue.
Grade 9-age 20
KIDSTAGE Acting Intensive (Section B)
Dates: Tuesdays/Thursdays, September 14-October 7, 2010, 4:00 - 6:00 PM

The Acting Intensive focuses on acting at an advanced level including various acting methods which are explored via character driven exercises and scene-work. It is intended to be a spring-board to the Steve Tomkins Studio and Company Originals programs. This class is geared for students who are exploring a vocation in performance.
Prerequisites: KIDSTAGE performance or permission.
Highly recommended for those auditioning for TeenSelect, Steve Tomkins Studio, and/or Company Originals.

Saturday Morning Dancing: Decades of Dance
Dates: Saturdays, October 2-November 20, 2010, 9:00 - 10:30 AM

Join us as we dance through the decades exploring individual musical theatre styles from a plethora of decades. Class will begin with a traditional jazz warm-up and across the floor exercises focusing on higher level technique, strength, and flexibility. Classes include challenging dance combinations with an emphasis on the unique characteristics and contrasts throughout musical theatre history. Fine tune your technique, performance skills, and expand your dance repertoire.
Prerequisite: Two or more years of dance experience recommended

Ensemble Institute (by audition or invitation)

The Ensemble Institute is the first step toward the Village Theatre Institute which will be in full force in the 2011-2012 season. The 26 week advanced training program will be taught and directed by some of the regions’ finest teaching artists, directors, choreographers, and music directors. The program goal is to build professional level musical theatre skills and important life skills through a progressive personalized continuum of coursework, rehearsal and performance. Students perform for the public and the emphasis is on the performer, not elaborate sets or costumes. Auditions and evaluations will allow staff to customize each student’s program for continued growth. Ensemble Institute students will be the only students allowed to audition for the April Ensemble production of 13. Year-round study is required.
Grades 6-9
Steve Tomkins Studio (by audition or invitation)

The Studio bridges the gap between regular KIDSTAGE classes and the real world. The Studio focuses on acting at an advanced level including various acting methods and techniques which are explored via scene-work, songs, and dance. This advanced training program will be taught by some of the regions’ finest teaching artists. The Studio will also include master classes (such as stage combat, dialect coaching, callback skills, etc.) taught by special guests. Most importantly, each student will come closer to achieving the ultimate musical theatre goal: becoming a triple-threat. Each session will culminate in a visit from Village Theatre’s Artistic Director, Steve Tomkins. Steve Tomkins Studio students receive priority casting for the Company Originals program and as performance interns for Village Theatre Mainstage. Year-round study required.
